Course Presenter:
Catherine Wycoff has practiced physical therapy for 19 years and has 8 years of experience as a Guild Certified
Feldenkrais Practitioner .  She has held private PT practices and taught the Feldenkrais Method in several countries in
Asia and Europe as well as in the US.  Her experience includes orthopedic and neurological outpatient settings, as well as
pediatrics through hippotherapy, therapeutic riding and volunteering in Third-World orphanages .
At the end of the workshop,
participants will be better able to do
the following:
understand the concepts on which the
Feldenkrais Method (FM) is based as
they apply to Physical Therapy.
discuss the parallels between the
concepts of the Feldenkrais Method
and the evidence based adaptive
codes of motor learning .
base their plan of care on recent peer
reviewed published  literature on the
effectiveness of the Feldenkrais
Method.
use Feldenkrais-inspired hands on
techniques to  improve their patient
care through a more refined touch.
use less physical effort in their
everyday practice in order to avoid
overuse injuries specific to
rehabilitation professionals.
teach more efficient movements to
their patients so that they incorporate
it into their daily activities.
The workshop participants will also
have the opportunity to experience an
Awareness Through Movement
®(ATM) class and observe a
Functional Integration®  (FI) session

Audience:  This course is designed
primarily for Physical Therapists and
Physical Therapy Assistants, but is
also useful for Occupational
Therapists and Occupational Therapy
Assistants.

Continuing education credit:
 This course has been approved by
the VPTA  for 6.5 hours of type 1

9:15-10:15:  Current research on motor
learning and comparison with
Feldenkrais Method motor learning
principles

10:30-11:30: Motor learning lab:
Awareness Through   Movement ®  
(ATM) lesson
11:30-12:00:  Application of ATM motor
learning strategies to patient education
12:00-1:00:  Lunch
1:00-2:00:    Physics based principles
of the F.M.: practical ways to refine the
PT’s touch  (hands on lab).
2:00-3:00:   Manipulation as a form of
non verbal communication: Observation
of a typical Functional Integration
lesson including evaluation, hands on
session and outcome assessment.
Discussion.
3:00-3:15:  break (refreshments)
3:15-4:15:   Incorporation of the
strategies learned into everyday
movements to reduce the incidence of
overuse injuries specific to
rehabilitation professionals.

Course Description
This one day course is designed to give Physical Therapists and Physical
Therapy Assistants an overview of the Feldenkrais Method and of its basic
principles  as they apply to the practice of physical therapy.
Through a combination of practical labs, presentation of the latest peer reviewed
literature  and discussions , the workshop will provide the participants with an
array of innovative hands on and motor learning strategies they can use in their
everyday physical therapy practice to improve their patient care, their treatment
outcomes and reduce the incidence of overuse injuries common in rehabilitation
professionals.
